Peeps and Peepers

Operation New Homestead is underway. Compost heap is up and the baby chicks are peeping (and pooping) in my basement until it warms up outside. The chicks are my new love. I am amazed at how fast they grow.

My how time flies! Soon Custard will be flying too at the rate she is growing.
Custard around 8-9 days old. Her wings grew so fast!

Custard around 3-4 days old. Notice how small her nubby little wings are?

On an unrelated note, I love my new-ish glasses.

Space Age Kitten Heels DIY!!!

Being in a wedding is one of life's greatest honors.

According to some of the bridezilla stories we've all heard, It's also quite possibly one of life's greatest headaches!

I am lucky though, and the retro-loving-bride-to-be has given us maids (and matrons) some creative freedom over our  look! What a relief because I can't seem to find silver shoes anywhere this season, and that is exactly what the bridal party needs. Lucky for me I happened to have some silver spray paint and masking tape in my basement. Perks of being married to a guy who saves everything!

Sitting around just waiting to be needed one day.
Shoes I have leftover from MY wedding. Worn only one other time after I tied the knot in them.
I just taped up the parts I didn't want to get painted.

Then I took them outside and sprayed them with the paint. It took two coats.

Voila! Super cute, silver kitten heels! Cost me nothing! Note: It took two FULL days for them to dry, even though they were in a sunny and dry room. So this is not something you want to do the day before you need them.

Wednesday, January 20, 2016

Since my last post I have moved from the old (rented) homestead  into a new (owned) one! One of my favorite features of the new house is the bathtub. It's a little bit deeper than our old one and MUCH prettier. So far, I've enjoyed several bubble baths.

Today I tried something new though. A detox bath that I read about in a magazine. Let me tell you, it was intense. Unlike any bath of my life, I felt like I was in a sauna. Sweating. A lot.

DETOX BATH
Desolve 2 cups of Epsom salts, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 tablespoon of ground ginger in your hot bath water. The sweating started within 10 minutes for me. It is said doing so will get out  the toxins that cause a cold.  Hopefully it works! There are a lot of web pages with more detailed instructions if you are interested.  If you try it, comment and let me know how it worked for you!
